Account Hacking/Stealing on N1

N1 is experiencing a HIGH level of account hacking and stealing the past 24 hrs. Affected account owners have already notified Evony via helpspot, but it is continuing. I know you'll assuming this is a result of account sharing, but logons have been changed and rechanged and are still being hacked. Hackers are able to change the passwords without generating a notification to either the primary or secondary emails. The TOP hero on the server was stolen last night as was another 1100+ hero and multiple 500+ heros. At least 5 accounts have been reset. And TWO whole alliances have been disbanded (all members expelled). Please look into this problem.

  • Hey Ninja,

I really couldn't agree more with your reply and your suggestions for dealing with this problem. A little compromise would go a long way and then after this is satisfactorily resolved Evony can set a stern policy that makes their position clear.

  • Consperacy theory or not. Evony better consider doing something because I play on 4 Servers and I echo what I hear from the various other players on these servers who play on other Server I dont play on. And so on.

I in no way hate or blame the workers of Evony. However when things go wrong I will hold accountable Evony and the people who profit from the sale and services I pay for.

The feeling I take from here if Evony cares or not goes with me to every server I play to my allliance and to the players I talk to and from them to others. Its a Domino affect that goes both ways because I come here to express my view. They however consider it a waste of time.

If Evony thinks long term they better put more solid investment back into the game to adress these issues besides making rules to simply skirt around the responsability of the harm done.

I dont express my View alone but the view of various people I come into contact with.

  • Well...unfortunately we have to revisit this topic since ANOTHER account from the OPPOSING SIDE of this server war was restored last night, yet we continue to get the SHAFT on this side of the fight. The account "Diabolos" from Alliance Zigzag was restored last night during maintenance. Diabolos was the victim of account sharing gone bad, the original owner passed away and left the account to his alliance to use. One player in the alliance decided to TAKE the account and leave, I guess resetting it along the way. The alliance members, who supposedly also got access to the email account from the deceased family filed complaint with Evony and within just a couple weeks, Evony restored the account. Evony didn't replace the items/heros but at least returned the account. Interesting that there was no THREAT about account sharing considering that the entire Alliance Zigzag is shared by just a few (less than 10) REAL human beings.

Dave, Thantium - it amazes me that you take this hardline with SOME and just roll over and GIVE IN to others on the same server.

As to this current situation - just put an account on N1 and ask what happened on WC...Zigzag's 2 primary human players have been on WC explaining the situation for WEEKS - we ALL know it was a result of their sharing...had you investigated you would know also. This is why we've been saying since the first time you threatened us instead of helping us that we all believe Evony is playing sides here. Here is more evidence of it...

    • Zog, all members of your alliance have their accounts back correct? Did this account in question get a restoration?

The answer is Yes and No respectively, they got treated the exact same way as the members of your alliance.
    • First of all I am not a member of an alliance that has ever been hacked. Second of all If this is true then I could possibly live with that explanation and that standard of operation of Evony. Even though I disagree with this policy as i think it does ENCOURAGE people to do social hacks and account resets because lets face it having the account back is almost meaningess if it doens't also have the heros and the items but at least this is a standard and if it is indeed applied evenly then I could live with it. However, I don't think it has been applied evenly AND thantium and Dave you have done a shockingly terrible job of explaining this issue. If you had come out right away and explained that reset accounts had been reactivated but just not restored that would have gone along way towards cooling off this situation. However this is the FIRST time I have heard either of you mention this crucial distinction in your policy and you will forgive me if I think this is just an expedient explanation for the moment. We howled for weeks that Sand's account was reset and then reappeared and you never once said that her account was merely reactivated but not restored. All you had to do to neutralize this entire line of our argument was to state the facts (if they indeed were the facts). You didn't do this. Instead you openly mocked us and told us not to believe everything we read in WC. Sorry but I am not buying that this subtle difference lies at the heart of your actions this whole time and you are just getting around to telling us now. Perhaps someone from Amertat or Dawn could speak to the issue of accounts that have reset but yet to be reactivated.

  • Personally I see a very..."political" game being played here. Evony is providing very long, and by the end of it pointless replies, then repeating the same general lines again just in a different manner. However Jim and a few others are providing a more fresh stream of information each time they post.

Thantium, you posted a while back about being between a rock and a hard place. If what you say about the ToS is correct. Do what you said, go through the history and ban EVERY account that has shared, botted or whatever other bollocks is out there. Atleast that would show consitancy on Evonys' behalf. However, with the replies and inconcistent actions so far, I believe that will not happen because it will mean either

A: Ban people which by all actions so far show your helping. OR
B: it will result in all but them banned, or maybe a ban of a few of their sacraficial farmers to try and save face, but overall proving what we're ALL thinking.

I'm not biased and will listen to any arguement. I'm simply stating MY opinion from what i've read. (may have missed some posts and will continue pokin round, may update post)

    • So Jim, just help me out here. The few accounts that were hit... you were the only person they shared their logins details with? So in effect you are the source of the security breach of their data?

Whether or not someone else got their account back is not your concern, they didn't get their armies or heroes back, so in effect, they lost a lot. As for the account belonging to someone who died. It's hearsay. If the account was returned, it means someone was able to correctly establish identity and ownership of the account. If someone committed fraud to do so, well, that's not something we can verify, and it is outside of our right to do so.

Apparently the Salandia account is still accessible, so it sounds like they're just fine. Much like the other account you're complaining about, they didn't get their heroes or armies back because they broke the rules. I'm failing to see the issue here, what I am seeing is a couple people upset, and using this forum as a place to vent, which is fine, but it's also less than constructive. I will say, the continuation of this thread is making me rethink our approach to handling issues of this nature.
    • What rules did I break? My account was on holiday.

  • Would it not be possible to match a war report to a login time? 9/10 a sitter arrives right after initial hits on an account. The server keeps reports in alliance war reps for 7 days so obviously stores the data relating to this attack? Also (assuming that would work) people would not log in instantly after they realise this is the case, somewht rendering sitters pointless, you could farm alot quickly if gates closed, or if open cause some serious damage. Rendering the sitter somewhat pointless.

  • Also, surely if someone who has sitters in comparison to someone playing at work & home would show a substantial amount of different I.P logins at such times also? Obviously a nutcracker of a thing to work around, but if it wasn't for that would it be a plausible idea?

    • Look drop it already. Yes, the information was passed via Skype (whether it was passed for actions legal under the TOS or not we can argue all day - I still say that there ARE scenarios that allow me to give a logon to somebody else as are spelled out in the TOS and in-game rules). But regardless, the logons were posted somewhere and a hacker used a malicous invasion of my privacy to steal those logons from a place he should never had access to. Then, he used that information to destroy people's accounts, steal their heros, and reset whatever he could.

I wonder, had I wrote my logon credentials and password in a file on my personal PC and a hacker used a elevation of priveledge attack or something else to get access to my PC and find that information and steal it and maybe he did it to 3 or 4 other people in the same alliance, would we be having this same conversation?

The point is, there's a ZILLION ways for an account to be compromised. Only ONE of those vectors implies an attack or hacking of Evony's game system. I guess ONLY in the case that that ONE vector was the attack used would Evony be obligated to help. I get that.

But here's the sad part. And, I really don't care how anybody chooses to respond to this. I've talked to 3 seperate players on N1, all of whom were part of the alliances hosting the people suspected of this particular act and EACH ONE OF THEM has personally confirmed to me that they've had accounts restored after one of their sitters (or somebody else) used shared logons to reset the account. One of the players never even complained herself (maybe it was one of the players she shared with that filed the complain?) and her account just magically reappeared one day minus her heros that were moved before resetting. Each one of those players is a botter, has multiple accounts, and shares logons. WHY would their situation be different than ours? I'll tell you why. Theirs was a situation of a SINGLE account here and a SINGLE account there which raised no suspicions and therefore no "investigations". In this particular situation, there were multiple accounts hit all at once, which obviously raises eyebrows.

You know...at the end of the day, here's the biggest kicker. Dave, Evony is an absolute cesspit of cheaters. The TOS and In-game rules on most servers are completely inapplicable. The ability of Evony to enforce the rules on most servers is out the window (btw I've played other servers and have the same opinions there). You and I both know that players using multiple accounts to feed their wars, sharing logons to protect themselves and their alliance mates, and using bots is completely out of control. My opinion is that ANY request for help should be met with the exact same scrutiny - EVERYBODY IS A CHEATER UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT. That way we won't run into these scenarios where one (or 3) well known cheaters gets help while a small group doing the same things and hit with the same problems doesn't.

I know it sounds ludicrous, but it's true. This is the only way for Evony to be fair on N1 (and most other servers too). You have to approach EACH AND EVERY report, request, etc. as if everybody is breaking the TOS. Or, you need to investigate everybody equally. It gets old watching known cheaters get away with things while others get penalized for the same things. Hell Dave, we don't even know what you need to see to get you to actually investigate people! I could go down the player list on at least 3 servers and point out who are alts, who is botting, and who is sharing logons. All Evony would need to do is look into it...but it seems all the reports we send tot he "in game support" just get ignored. It took almost a year for Evony to look into one player on N1 (who had TRILLIONS of res and 30 feeder accounts being used). Guess what, that player's back using another account and rebuilding that network of feeder accounts. You'd think Evony would be watching that person like a hawk!

Anyhow, Dave, why not just close this thread and kill it? Thanks.

      Jim
    • You should not listen to everything that people say. I can confirm that we restore very very few accounts, and when we do, it is almost never for an account that is compromised. I can only think of one situation where this could happen.

In this case your trusting the alliance that actually claimed to have compromised the accounts, when they say that they had accounts restored... Think about the logic on that.

As for someone removed and they came back... Odds are we closed all of the accounts, how can we spot them with new accounts and an IP address??

We do our best, be warned when we catch you we will follow the rules, we do not look at payment history when we dole out punishments, and never will we let slide something that has been investigated and we find that rules have been broken.
